This morning, I discovered a scam shop producing counterfeit versions of my notepads and selling fake copies of my artwork.

Remember: if it doesn’t say Boygirlparty, it’s a knockoff! Your help identifying copies is crucial in my ongoing fight to protect my work. If you come across knockoffs, please forward it to me immediately so I can take action against any theft.

The 8x8 show opens at @giantrobot in LA today. It’s the 20 year anniversary of GR2, 2062 Sawtelle Blvd. I’m so proud to be a part of this community & these events for every one of those 20 years. Many of my most treasured memories & creative breakthroughs & friendships are made in this special space. thanks to @giantrobot & @giantrobotstore for all of it.

I am particularly grateful for something so meaningful when my heart is so heavy with grief. I truly cannot believe i am seeing a world in which peace is not a shared value. If this is breaking your heart too, you are not alone.

One of my favorite experiences this summer was spent in the desert on a creative retreat. My days were full of painting and drawing and writing and revising (and stargazing and reading and lizard spotting and shaking sand out of my shoes…)

It was productive, yes! But it was also restorative and quiet and SO helpful. It’s something i have always wanted to do, and so glad i finally did!

I posted about this experience a few weeks ago on my behind the scenes blog. Deepest thanks to @killerfemme & @mestenwatt who each in their own way helped me & made this trip possible.

Have you ever used one? The sealing process is meditative & adds old world charm and a final special touch to a letter 💌 As if snail mail could be any more special!

Ten years ago, my first picture book as illustrato

Ten years ago, my first picture book as illustrator came out. My work began *years* prior, but this release marked a profound shift to both my life and my art. Before this year slips through our fingers, i want to acknowledge ✨ a decade (so far!) ✨ of this debut. It’s a non-fiction picture book — WHAT WILL HATCH written by Jennifer Ward, published by @bloomsburychildrens, illustrated by me - susie ghahremani (pictures mean business! Credit illustrators!). It’s about the many types of animals that hatch from eggs (crocodiles! caterpillars! frogs! Platypus!!!)
Ps: this first photo was taken by one of the truest friends there is on this planet, the incredible @_ch_ 💌 — the second photo was taken by me a couple weeks ago at the @townofyuccavalley public library.

So many people have helped bring me and my art and my perspective into the world of picture books, too. From critique partners to authors to agents and readers and publishers and editors and art directors and designers and assistants and production managers and copy editors and translators and the list is quite long and ever growing.

Kidlit is a realm that continues to challenge, teach, deepen, connect, and surprise me. I love the integrity, the community, the friends I’ve made along the way. The hope and possibility that next book contains. i love the pictures my friends send me of their families reading together. The looks on kids faces when we read and the giggles and gasps.
