This is me right now, rushing to get everything together for #Nowruz / persian new year / NoRooz!

The first day of spring is my culture’s new year, and my favorite holiday — celebrating earth renewing itself, the growth, the hope, the possibility… what is not to love?

We surround ourselves with those we love, wear fresh clothes in our clean houses, and hold positive thoughts in our hearts. It’s a true reset & such a joyful, beautiful tradition I’m so grateful my parents brought with them to this country when they relocated here.

I’m also holding positive thoughts for the women of Iran who are so brave and so just in seeking freedom and liberation. Here’s hoping this new year breaks new ground in a number of ways.

I'm Susie Ghahremani, an illustrator / author / painter / designer / letterer / etc. based in San Diego, CA. My site is boygirlparty.com. I can be found at @boygirlparty on most platforms! I'm represented in publishing by my brilliant sister @wonderlilly at @fullcirclelit / Full Circle Literary.

I've author-illustrated books such as STACK THE CATS, BALANCE THE BIRDS (@abramskids); GROWTH: A JOURNAL TO WELCOME PERSONAL CHANGE (@roostbooks); BON VOYAGE: A TRAVEL JOURNAL, CLEAR SKIES eco-journal, TREETOPS JOURNAL (@chroniclebooks); and I've illustrated children's books such as WHAT WILL GROW? and WHAT WILL HATCH? by Jennifer Ward (@bloomsburychildrens); LITTLE MUIR'S SONG and LITTLE MUIR'S NIGHT with words by John Muir (@yosemiteconservancy); SHE WANTED TO BE HAUNTED by Marcus Ewert (@bloomsburychildrens); and many, many more books and products.

My background is Persian-American / Iranian-American. I'm an avid tea drinker, fountain pen user, bird watcher, roadtrip mix curator, concert goer, snail mail writer, stargazer. I'm fascinated by playing with color, gouache, tiny details, and recently with drybrush techniques.

So glad this hashtag / digital was generously started (by @ginaperry_books) to help share new works and to connect with the -#kidlit community. So, here is mine! The original of this painting is only 2.5" wide, and was painting in gouache on wood.
