Susie Ghahremani is an award-winning illustrator and a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design. She was recognized by the Society for Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators with a Mentorship Award at the 2016 SCBWI Portfolio Showcase. Painting with the traditional media of gouache, Susie hand creates each of her illustrations on wood or paper. Her paintings have a natural handmade feel with rich textures and contemporary colors.
Susie’s first picture book she both writes and illustrates, Stack the Cats, inspired by her bestselling Cat Pile clothing line, will be published by Abrams Appleseed. Susie is also the illustrator of two picture books written by Jennifer Ward, What Will Hatch? and What Will Grow? (Bloomsbury).
In addition to illustrating for diverse commercial clients from Target to The Washington Post, Susie designs and develops a whimsically illustrated stationery and gift brand Boygirlparty® consisting of more than 300 products, popular everywhere from independent boutiques and galleries to retailers such as ModCloth, Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters and Nordstrom. Susie has been the recipient of awards and recognition by American Illustration, the Society of Illustrators Los Angeles, and Alt*Pick, and has been profiled in several publications including The New York Times. Susie is a member and featured illustrator of the Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and a former board member of The Illustration Conference (ICON).
When not painting tiny paintings, illustrating books, designing stationery and gifts, teaching at RISD, exhibiting her work internationally, or connecting with the illustration community, Susie lives in sunny San Diego with her husband and zillions of pets.
