My Virtual events during San Diego Design Week

San Diego Design Week kicks off this week with free, LIVE, virtual events anyone can attend, and I’ve got a few of them:

Boygirlparty Party @ San Diego Design Week

And, art shows continue to go virtual! I just shipped out 8 paintings to Nahcotta’s Enormous Tiny Art show, which can be seen at https://nahcotta.com/collections/susie-ghahremani

Next art shows: the Plant Show at Giant Robot, and “Final Girls” at Spoke Art.

I was recently featured in this wonderful article by KPBS titled “Local Illustrator Brings The Sweet and The Macabre to A New Children’s Book”.

And there’s been some other positive press recently about my new books, too! Red Tricycle calls She Wanted To Be Haunted a “Best Kids Book of the Summer”, and Kirkus says its “spunky, appealing personality” and “cheerful, lively illustrations” are “not necessarily just for Halloween; readers can appreciate it anytime.” — Meanwhile, Little Muir’s Night received praise from the Sierra News saying “This joyful book is the perfect bedtime read-aloud for the littlest nature lovers.”

Little Muir’s Night is finally here! And so are reprints of the Campfire Owls T-shirts – now on Women’s V-Necks, too!Campfire Owl T-shirts for Men and Women at boygirlparty

And, for a little more behind the scenes, check out this replay of a live Q&A I had with the students of the Castelar School in Los Angeles, organized by my good friends Martin Wong, Eloise Wong, and Wendy Janet Lau:

And again, a reminder that I’ll be doing another Q&A Live and free to attend THIS FRIDAY with the public library. Details & RSVP at https://tinyurl.com/bgpparty — plus there will be an opportunity to get a sold out, limited edition pin, which I made for independent bookstore day (recently, and bizarrely, mentioned in FORBES MAGAZINE:

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORT ARTISTS DURING A PANDEMIC!

Many of my events and plans have changed these past few months, but I’m still here making artwork. Here are some other ways to support:

She Wanted To Be Haunted is here!

She Wanted To Be Haunted - funny rhyming picture book illustrated by Susie Ghahremani

My next picture book is here! She Wanted to Be Haunted by Marcus Ewert is a hilarious, rhyming picture book about a cute pink cottage named Clarissa, with windows that wink and flowers growing all around. But Clarissa doesn’t want to be adorable–being cute is boring!

Snag a signed copy from the shop, order through your local indie bookshop!, or read some of the reviews it’s received so far.She Wanted to be Haunted by Marcus Ewert, illustrated by Susie Ghahremani She Wanted To Be Haunted (picture book by Marcus Ewert, Illustrated by Susie Ghahremani)Photo styling above by my talented friends here Stacy Keck Photography and Natalie Gill of Native Poppy

If you’ve read the book and have a moment to write a 5-star review on Amazon or Goodreads, or to share it on social media with the hashtag #SheWantedToBeHaunted, I appreciate it! A pandemic is a strange time to release a children’s book, so any help in generating word of mouth is welcome!

Meanwhile, if you’d like to take a deep dive into the art-making process for this book, I’ve created a behind-the-scenes look at the artwork for my Patreon backers.Behind the Scenes with artist Susie Ghahremani, illustrator of She Wanted to be HauntedEvery page of this 40 page book was painted on black board, so an inner gloominess would come through the painting!

Coming up in the near future: I’ll be a blogger for the SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) Summer Conference, exhibiting at Nahcotta’s next Enormous Tiny Art Show, and exhibiting at the first ever San Diego Design Week! (Sept 9-13) including a very special event in coordination with the Mingei Museum.

Hope to see you there & at my other events (virtually) in the future!
